Joel Evans, MD, ABOG, FACOG, IFMCP

Joel M. Evans, M.D., a board-certified OB/GYN and international lecturer, is the Director of The Center for Functional Medicine in Ridgefield, CT. He is also the Chief of Medical Affairs for the Institute for Functional Medicine. He continues to serve as the external lead of IFM Advanced Practice Module in Hormone Health since its inception in 2011 and was a Co-Creator of the IFM course on COVID-19, lead its Post-Covid Initiative and has co-authored three published papers on the pandemic. 

Dr. Evans has been a student and practitioner of mind/body medicine since his initial training with Jim Gordon, MD and the Center for Mind/Body Medicine in 1997. He has since worked in Macedonia after the Kosovo bombings in 1999, with the FDNY after 9/11, with mental health practitioners in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and has taught health practitioners worldwide as a member of the Senior Faculty of the Center for Mind/Body Medicine. He most recently facilitated mind/body groups remotely for mental health practitioners in Ukraine. Dr. Evans joined the CMBM Board of Directors in July 2023. 

He has a special interest in genetic risk assessment for cancer and other chronic diseases and has been appointed as Chief Medical Officer for geneType Inc, an international laboratory that assesses risk for serious illness. He also serves as Medical Director of the Keep A Breast Foundation, bringing the latest information on cancer risk assessment and prevention to his patients. 

Dr. Evans was honored to speak at the United Nations on the topic of Prenatal Origins of Violence, and he serves as UN Representative and Chief Medical Advisor for OMAEP – World Organization of Prenatal Education Associations and is the Medical Director and Advisory Board member of the Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health. His book on the holistic approach to pregnancy, The Whole Pregnancy Handbook (Gotham, 2005), has received widespread critical acclaim and media attention. Having pursued his interests in mind/body medicine, spirituality, metaphysics, and personal transformation for many years, Dr. Evans is dedicated to sharing this wisdom with others to help bring health and happiness into their lives.
